Were delighted to welcome you to the area weve chosen to live in and celebrate. As new owners of this publication, we wanted to share with readers the things that make the southeastern coast of North Carolina so special.

We moved here six years ago after spending two years exploring the entire East Coast evaluating places we might live. We looked as far west as the Blue Ridge Mountains, and literally visited from Maine to Florida, but kept returning to the Cape Fear region. Moving here was one of the smartest decisions weve made. There is much to love about this area. Wilmington is large enough to offer tremendous diversity in restaurants, housing, theater, music, shopping and sports, yet small enough to traverse with ease. The weather changes enough so that we experience four seasons, but winters are benign enough to be outdoors frequently, even in February.

The people who live here, whether native Wilmingtonians or new residents, are welcoming, friendly and helpful. Local taxes are low and housing is relatively affordable when compared with many other parts of the country. And that so much of historical significance and natural, disparate beauty surrounds us, from the beaches to the maritime forests to the woodlands, marshes, tidal creeks, lakes, ponds and rivers, is almost without parallel.

The owners of hotels, bed and breakfasts, rental units and condos provide this book for your convenience. Please leave it for the next guests.
